Hi, I still am totally creeped out about spiders. While I beleive the animals we are drawn to are our totem animals I have the feeling that the ones we are most afraid of or repelled by are a kind of totem animal too with something to teach us. I found one that is black with a white stripe on it's back. Makes me wonder if it's dangerous or not. I don't like the idea of them crawling on me and I still don't like the idea of them being in my apartment. I itch just writing about it! What do you all think about the animals we fear being a totem animal?

Re: Fear of spiders
Thu, April 10, 2008 - 9:44 AMThat's a very interesting question. I suppose in one way a totem animal can be something you fear. In this way, it is teaching you how to, or that you need to, conquer your fears. Does that mean picking up the spider and petting it? Probably not! LOL I would do some research online or in books about spiders - especially the one you saw. It may provide a clue as to what is being presented to you to understand.
On the other hand, it could be just a spider crawling around 8 )
Totems, from what I have experienced, are more benign and should be something you are drawn to, or is drawn to you with a positive influence, not one that scares you away. So although this may not be a totem or familiar, it may still have a message. -

Re: Fear of spiders
Thu, April 10, 2008 - 10:37 AMSpiders make their living off of vibrations on their webs. Because of this they are easily trainable by energetic folk. You should be able to keep 'em out of the areas of the house where you don't want them. -

Re: Fear of spiders
Fri, April 18, 2008 - 4:01 PMI'm okay with spiders outside. I even have them hanging out around my door. But I tell them time and time again if they come in the house they are dead. I have a strong reaction to spider bites.

Re: Fear of spiders
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 3:39 PMjust becasue an animal has a message for you, doesnt mean its a totem animal, its just a messenger for you, a one shot deal if you will, maybe more or something different, but generally a totem animal is one that remains with you spiritually for life, kind of defines who or what you are on the inside.
ALso, an animal that you fear DOES have a message for you, you jjust have to know how to listen, how to get around you fear or outside it enough to be able to hear the message, theyre usally FAR more meaningful messages than the ordinary kind, they have more power.
THer is such a thing as a shadow totem though, but its not like that at all, its a totem that tells us all the things we hide from the world and from ourselves, its not nice at all, lol. but very important to the balance we as humans must have.

Thu, May 22, 2008 - 10:16 AMArchnophobia is discreated by applying O5 RTRRT to the heart center. The dark spider is generally a negative projection of divinity, who is seen as giant Eagle or spider since emanating rays of super-consciousness. lulu.com/astrology You can imagine an oriole-like being within your heart. Re: Fear of spiders (Arachniphobia?)
Sat, May 24, 2008 - 2:58 AMThe amygdula in the brain registers images and sounds which over a long evolutionary period have become registered as threats, eg shape of the spider, the snapping of a twig - all alert the body for fight or flight. you can decondition yourself with some assistance by gradually exposing yourself to the imagined threat. but yes some spiders are dangerous - i love them really and do not have this phobia. -

Re: Fear of spiders (Arachniphobia?)
Sat, May 24, 2008 - 10:00 AMI remember reading in a Carl Sagan book that the three most common elements in nightmares are: darkness, falling, and being eaten. Exactly what a species that used to be arboreal would be afraid of.

NOt for Arachniphobes......
Sat, May 24, 2008 - 12:41 PMwhen i was a kid i had a beautiful tarantula I named Elizibeth, she was so very pretty, i loved her like i would a close friend, we would go out for walks and she would crawl up on top of my head and just sit there so lightly i coudt hardly feel her, when i would go home i would lay down carefully, trying not to disturb her and one day i ( although it was one of my worst fears, that i would fall asleep and forget about her and roll over onto her) i fell asleep and woke to find her sitting directly on my face with her underside over my eyes so i had a direct view of her sheathed fangs, ( which were very nice glossy black and surrounded by the neon orange-red of her species, to show threat when she was mad and reared back) anyway, i was stunned at first then i just giggled, and told her to get off my face, lol, she was just sitting there like she was waiting for me to wake up just to freak me out a bit and was wating to see my reaction.
She had a wonderful personality, and for any one that has ever been close to spiders , they will know that they have a peculiar sense of humour but it IS there and hers was very silly, i loved her very much, some of you might think that is strange but then i always was a bit off , lol.
She had a very kind and loving personality, and i miss her to this day.
